Sorry for the wonky formatting

Filed under: Events, Little Yeti, News — Tags: , — Little Yeti @ 2:52 pm

So as I teach myself html, CSS, javascript, and wordpress, I have realized that this blog is a little bit wonky.  I’ll be working on it over the next few weeks, but please just bear with it for now (unless of course you’re an awesomely overambition and skilled web developer that wants to fix everything for me for free!)  Thanks so much!

So these alternative wedding photos aren’t the most crazy crazy wedding photos out there (try googling “zombie wedding”), but they do look damn good.  Check ‘em out over at rocknrollbride.com!

Yay personal site!

So www.rickkitagawa.com is finally up and ready to go out into the world.  There are some definitely tweaks I can still make, but it’s good enough for right now. Check it out to see my wide range of illustrations, fine art, graphic design, and some scans of my sketchbook!

Now it’s just time to get going with more art, more wedding invitation designs, and more awesomeness!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I’ve been swamped with a graphic design gig, some freelance illustration work, as well as helping a friend/client Priya screenprint her own wedding invitations!  I helped with the layout and typesetting, but she pretty much carried the weight of the designing and I just helped execute it.  Thursday and Friday we knocked out 125 invitations and RSVP cards (2-sided!!!) via good ol’ fashioned manual screenprinting.  That’s a whopping 500 prints to pull!

It was exhausting (esp. for Priya, who was doing most of the work) especially the run that we heat embossed, but now she can say she designed and printed her own wedding invitations, and they look fabulous!  Priya is going to send me the whole invitation package when she’s ready to send them off, so I’ll definitely post some pictures when I get them!

I thought I’d just check in and do a quick promo for Robot In The City, the newest web comic by Alexander Shen.

Alex Shen is a local Bay-Area artist/musician/game programmer with a pretty awesome sense of humor, an enjoyable style and as an independent publisher/toy designer/game creator is pretty hardcore DIY coolness.  Go check out his comic and then hop over to his main site to browse around!

Ps - You’ll understand the title if you check out the Robot in the City link.

Woot Vermont!

Vermont’s legislature just legalized gay marriage!  Awwwwww yeah, baby!

Read all about it here: http://www.hrc.org/12455.htm

I feel like the tide is turning and people are finally starting to realize that keeping people from marrying on the basis of sexual identity is completely discriminatory and wrong.  Thanks Vermont senators and representatives!

The battle for gay marriage continues…

Filed under: LGBTQI rights, Politics — Little Yeti @ 9:28 pm

So although here in California, the outlook of defeating Prop 8 may be a little bleak, I’m super excited about Iowa, where the Iowa Supreme Court just legalized gay marriage! Woooo!

Hopefully California’s Supreme Court can take this as a hint that excluding same-sex couples from marrying is discrimination against a minority group, and constitutional amendments aren’t supposed to be able to do that.

Still crossing my fingers about California, but congratulations Iowa!!!!

Awesome new art

Filed under: Art and Design, Paintings, illustration, inspirations — Tags: , — Little Yeti @ 6:01 am

The sleep schedule of Little Yeti is a bit wack right now, so instead of being asleep as per usual, here are some awesome new art pieces by two of my favorite artists, James Jean and Shepard Fairey.

Isreal/Palestine by Shepard Fairey

I’m always astounded by their awesomeness and the sheer volume of work they manage to put out every year.  Great inspirations to get me designing/painting/illustrating.

Sleep would be pretty awesome right about now.

Sleep. Get Some.

Sleep. Get Some.

I originally planned to do a silkscreened poster of this disgruntled, tired, worn-out, multi-tasking octopus, but then decided to go with a series of wanted posters chasing down various cryptids.  Hopefully I’ll have those up for your viewing pleasure in a few weeks.  Anyhoo, it’s been a long night trying to get this blog up, so I figured I might as well test this little blog out and put up something half-way related to wedding invitations and such.
